What to Pack When Moving Into a PG (Complete Checklist)

Moving into a PG for the first time is exciting — but also easy to over-complicate. Here's what you actually need vs. what you'll regret hauling across the city.

Essentials to always bring: all your ID documents (Aadhaar, college ID, passport photos), a padlock for your wardrobe, your laptop and charger, a power strip with surge protection (sockets near beds are never enough), a good pair of noise-cancelling earbuds for studying, and 2–3 weeks of clothing (the laundry service runs 2x/week).

Toiletries: bring a small supply for the first few days. Don't overload on shampoos and conditioners — there's usually a local store within 5 minutes. A quick-dry towel is more useful than a heavy bath towel.

Study setup: your laptop is enough — most PGs like Rentastic Homes have a proper study table and chair in every room. A desk lamp is useful if you study late. Physical books and stationery: bring what's actually on your syllabus, not your entire collection.

What NOT to bring: large cooking appliances (not allowed in most PGs), excessive décor, a full wardrobe of formal wear you'll never need, or expensive electronics you don't use regularly.

One tip from long-term residents: label everything. Shared spaces mean things go missing. A permanent marker on your chargers and water bottle saves a surprising amount of stress.
